Green Shores Level 1

Learning to read a shoreline during Level 1 training in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

This one-day course provides an introduction to the Green Shores program, including its rationale, benefits, and application. This content is of interest to elected officials, landowners, municipal staff, conservation organizations, real estate agents, and others who have a general interest in shoreline ecosystem protection. This program is delivered both in person by Saint Mary’s University, and online through the British Columbia Institute of Technology. The online course costs around $260+hst and can be accessed at https://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/renr1720.

Green Shores Level 2

Exploring wave, storm surge, and sea level rise impacts during Level 2 training in Halifax, Nova Scotia

This two-day workshop provides participants with in-depth knowledge about how the Green Shores credit and rating systems can be used in shoreline management projects. The content is of interest to professionals (biologists, engineers, planners, landscape architects) and contractors, local and regional government staff, and others seeking to implement the Green Shores program for a shoreline improvement, new design and development. This course is delivered in partnership between the Stewardship Centre for British Columbia and Saint Mary’s University in person. Green Shores Level 1 training is a pre-requisite for this course.

Green Shores Level 3

This online course is intended for planning, design and construction professionals such as biologists, landscape architects, engineers, geoscientists, planners, contractors and others with expertise and experience in applying Green Shores principles who are interested in proving their proficiency. Those who are successful and pass this portfolio-based course will be listed on the Stewardship Centre for British Columbia’s website as a Green Shores Approved Professional. A similar approved professionals site will be developed for the Maritimes.

This course will not gauge experience and proficiency in a chosen profession. Rather, it will gauge the ability to apply the Green Shores credits and ratings systems within the context of a chosen profession through the creation of a Green Shores Professional Proficiency portfolio that shows familiarity and skill with the Green Shores program. Level 1 and Level 2 are both prerequisites for this course.

This training is offered through the British Columbia Institute of Technology: https://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/renr1740
