Dr. Elson Galang

Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. Elson Galang (he/him) is a Killam Postdoctoral Fellow at the School for Resource and Environmental Studies at Dalhousie University supervised by Prof. Kate Sherren and co-supervised by Prof. Danika van Proosdij of the Transcoastal Adaptations at Saint Mary's University. He holds a Ph.D. from McGill University, where he studied collective visions of plausible futures of social-ecological systems across Canada, including the Bay of Fundy's dykeland-saltmarsh system.

His postdoctoral research explores heritage-based environmental management and governance frameworks and how such frameworks can embrace the rich and diverse values of the dykeland-saltmarsh system. His research will also be mentored by Tony Bowron of CBWES and John Cormier of the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage.

Dr. Galang's past research and broad interests include participatory research, social-ecological systems, and social dimensions of ecosystem services. He was born and raised in the Philippines.
